SILVER & GEMS TOUR - A Visit to Philipsburg, MT -- a "tiny town" with big history
Discoveries of silver and gemstones in the areas around this town drew thousands of settlers to work the nearby mines. Today, small towns like Philipsburg draw visitors for their western charm, sapphire digging, restaurants, breweries, festivals and more! Enjoy a scenic drive to Philipsburg for a half- or full-day trip. Largely self-guided, explore the town, and add-on the nearby Granite Ghost Town State Park for an extended tour.
GOLD TOUR - Spend the day in Helena, MT
Gold discovered in the local creeks brought prospectors to the areas around the future city of Helena, MT--now our state capitol. This tour begins with a scenic drive toward the capitol city, and includes a visit to the Montana Historical Society Museum--a great collection of western and Native American artifacts, and access to the works of the famous MT artist, Charlie Russell. See the capitol building, and downtown's the Last Chance Gulch will charm your walking shoes with shops, restaurants, brewery and more! Fees to museum entry included in your tour. Full day tour.
Trails of Western History Tour
For nature- and western history-lovers: traverse an historic route traveled by local Native American tribes and the Lewis and Clark Corps of Discovery...
Visit Travelers' Rest State Park - a proven camp site for the Lewis and Clark Corps of Discovery, at the beginning of the history "road to the buffalo" route used by the Nez Perce tribe. Enjoy the visitor center and walk the trails of the park. Across the road enjoy a private western history museum tour. CONTACT MTAS to extend this tour to include an scenic drive up the Lolo Creek corridor to Lolo Pass, and/or a visit to Lolo Hot Springs for a soak. Half-day or Full day tour.
